Very brief update.

It's been raining on and off since Thursday, so the phone line buzz is back. I'm connected at a screaming 9600, so this will be fairly brief (for me).

Friday: Went to Waffle House for the last time and encountered masses of teenagers in the parking lot, I'd guess post-game from the cheerleader outfits and team t-shirts. We were minorly bothered by how old they looked. After sitting down, we found out they had just stiffed the entire waitstaff on tips. Would have run them down because we had the nicest waitress ever despite their poor diner behavior, but it would have dented the car.

Saturday: Stopped by knicole1979's on Saturday with dessert Fig Newtons and saw her, Lane and the baby (so cute!). The children's consignment place wouldn't take Laurel's 3-year-old crib (they have $300 used cribs in the front window), so we stuck it in the donation bin for the base thrift store. Went to Hikari's for the last time and thoroughly enjoyed being in there at an off time -- teared up at the thought of not going there again (we love love love them) and the sushi chef cut up a pineapple for us, which Laurel thought was the coolest thing ever.

After getting home I waded into a puddle to extract Laurel and get her back in the house (she lets herself out if you don't lock the screen door) and netted 5-6 ant bites, which immediately turned into dime-size raised welts. Put Bendaryl cream on them and tried not to scratch, but took a few pictures immediately after first cream application because I'd never had welts like that before.

Sunday: Woke up with hives from the base of my toes up to my ankle from the ant bites, so not much got done. Called home to get updated on the engagement (Branden proposed to Amy Friday night) and see what Mom recommended for hives -- antihistamines and an oatmeal bath. Had v. strange dreams during the afternoon as I hadn't slept well the night before and managed to sleep through the This Old House special. *sigh*

Today: Slept with an old sock covering damp oatmeal packed on my hives so I woke up with less itch, but no water. Water service has no idea why we have no water again (this is the second or third time this has happened in the last year despite our always paying early/on time) and promised to have it back on by noon tomorrow. Whee. Went to Michael's for some plastic canvas shapes and plastic needles for a "needlework" kit to keep Laurel amused on Thursday's flights and also picked up a few coloring books for her and a cute Wilton gingerbread wedding chapel kit for Amy.

With my current bandwidth issues I probably won't get around to typing up that list, sage_and_sea, so if it's okay with you I'll just ship all the gently used <1 year old age-appropriate toys in a UPS parcel to you and you can do what you want with any toys you don't want/need.

karaksindru, what time is the D'Evelyn Dash on Saturday? I'd like to spend time at both the Dash and redqueenofevil's going-away party, but if I have to choose between the two I'll probably go with the party so I can meet her and see mountain_hiker and oracleofdoom again.

D'Evelyn Dash
Time is from 0700 to 1300, 23 August, with special appearance by Mike Kingry literally dropping in at 0830 with the Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Parachute Team.

Re: D'Evelyn Dash
I'm not sure about showing up in the morning although I would to see you (Andy gave you a hug for me, and I'd like it sometime soon), Dave, Fuul, et al. I should make some sort of token appearance to freak out the alumni association people (are there any since Ms. Freimann stayed with Manning when the new building opened?) and take lots of pointless pictures to stick online and further fubar Google results for D'Evelyn (I told the DEF I own the develyn.org domain and no one's said a word about it although I've offered to transfer ownership to the Foundation or forward it to the DEF website).

My only memory of Mike Kingry is from when he was in nonwestern civ with Robert and I, and it's pretty vague -- I think it involved squirrels on the field trip to the China exhibit at the natural history museum. Do you remember that? All I remember clearly from the trip is Betty's first words to me ("I hope you're note trouble") and that the rest of our group wanted to spend our free time in the Hall of Life while Robert and I wanted to see the hall of minerals.

Re: D'Evelyn Dash
Yeah, I'm not much for mornings either, same with Fuul, Neon, and to an extent Rojzik. Cam's the odd ball, up before 10 and all .. ;)

I don't think I remember that trip ... the only reason I mentioned Kingry's entrance is that they used three lines on the post card to tell us ... so I figured I might as well share the info ;)

hehe, I just had a bad idea ... take develyn.org and make it a porn site *efg*

They did actually build a Waffle House in Longmont, so it doesn't have to be your last time at one. I go there whenever I need to satiate my Midwestern nostalgia.

Also, you should get in touch when you get out this way since we didn't get to get together last time. And of course, if there's anything I can help with all you have to do is ask (you may not have believed me when I said that was a lifetime offer, but it's been about 10 years and it's still true)...

I wasn't aware of the WH in Longmont, but I've been to two in Colorado Springs -- Michael and I used to eat there when we had late-night munchies when he was stationed down there. (Yes, _that_ Michael. He's in Germany now and I miss him terribly, but hopefully I'll get to visit while they're there.) We eat at WH here because it's the only place in town open 24 hours other than the two McDonald's in town.

Drop me an e-mail with your cell number and I'll call you sometime next week. (I arrive in Denver Thursday night, plan on sleeping Friday, and have already been scheduled [heh] for the weekend.) That May vacation was the shortest two weeks in my life and I didn't find the time to do half the things I wanted to during it.

That would be wonderful and fine, if it's the easiest/best thing! We appreciate it hugely :)
