Himself once informed me that I grew up in a hyper-polite bubble since people in my world are strongly encouraged to call before visiting, even if it's five minutes from the house. I like this standard because it allows me to be prepared for company when someone stops by.

kenwestervelt, this is why I was so bitchy on Saturday night (in addition to having a migraine) and why you damn near caught me in my underwear a few minutes ago.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive and lightweight short robe to get me through the remainder of the miserable wet heat here? Even with air conditioning, it's uncomfortably sticky in here and I hate the feeling of literally peeling my clothes off at the end of the day. I spend the majority of the day around the house and my neighbors can't see in, but I want to be ready since unannounced visitors have escalated recently.

EDIT: I've ordered a seersucker robe from Kohl's after a suggestion from ask_us. it should arrive sometime in the next week. Also looked at low-e film for the windows, but Himself did not like the price and says the house heats up so much during the day because it's a trailer. Gah.

Given the conditions, I can see why.

But, we have the same situation. If someone came by unannounced at our home, they'd likely have to wait until at least Kat found something to cover up with.

*nods* My problem is that he tends to let himself in, so this isn't the first time he's nearly caught me in my underwear.

Once he let himself in while Laurel and I were sleeping and quickly left. I was confused that time because he didn't leave a note but left bootprints in the back entry. (Robert leaves his boots at the door.)

do what I do, sit around naked. And anyone can come by, anytime.

As much as I like my body, I don't like *ahem* scaring people with it.

Oh, please.

You don't scare me -- except by threatening to NOT let me see...

I know I don't scare you, but if you were going to stop by my house I'd expect you would do me the courtesy of calling instead of just dropping by and letting yourself in.

It's the whole being-caught-by-surprise thing that bothers me, moreso because he doesn't need to (and I don't want him to) see me any less than fully clothed.

screw 'em if they can't take a joke

I get pissed when people don't call. I'm obessesive compulsive with my house being clean and I never feel like it's clean enough. So, I like to have time to go look over things before someone comes. Yep, I'm nuts.

You should ask about the robe on ask_us b/c I have no idea.

I never think my house is clean enough, but I like to do a once-over of the living room to pick up Laurel's toys and books when I know someone's coming over.

I also like to have a little something homemade ready when people visit. My best friend was stationed at Peterson when I lived in Colorado and loved having muffins or whatever after he arrived, especially since it was a 90-minute drive up from the base.

That's nice. I never have anything for people to eat like that. I guess I should do that kind of stuff. Ahh well. We don't have company that often.

Yanno I totally agree. I get so pissed when people don't have the common sense to call before coming over. And you know what? I'm not above just not opening the door if I don't feel up to visitors. If they don't like it tough. They should get some manners and call.

As for robes my mother and sister have these really nice Vicki's Secret silk/satin type short robes. They are very nice. I dunno how much they cost though.

I trained most of my friends to call ahead because I'll make some quick bread or cookies if I have enough time before they arrive.

Robert says the friend that keeps dropping in unannounced does it because we're on his way home (he lives a few minutes further away from town off the same main road we do), but I'm not a big person for surprises.

I think I'm going to go with a seersucker robe since that's the most practical suggestion I got after asking at ask_us. I really like the pretty little robes from Victoria's Secret but I know I'd have to order from their website to get it in my size. When I went into one of their stores in Raleigh last month, they hardly had anything in my size.

It doesn't matter in my mind if he lives next door to you. He should call when he's leaving work "Hey I'm thinking of dropping buy for a minute do you mind?" and what if you are in the middle of something and really can't have visitors.

I understand the issues with Vicki's Secret. All I wanted was size small low rise bikini panties...That was too much to ask.

It doesn't matter to me where he's coming from either, but attempts in the past to explain that I want to be called before he visits have had no effect. On the bright side, we'll be moving back to Colorado this summer so he can't stop by without a couple days' drive first!

I've never found anything in my size at a Victoria's Secret store except for one brassiere, and I found it (their version of the Wonder Bra, can't remember the name) really uncomfortable. My sister orders from the catalog so the few VS things I own have come from there.

Colorado is supposed to be so pretty. But hey you only gotta deal with him stopping by for a little longer.

My boobies are way too small for anything in VS. Oh wells. I need implants. heh
