Photos: Windowbox in bloom!

Since we're only here temporarily, we've planted in containers so we can take them with us or leave them for the next tenant when we move. The daylilies out front haven't bloomed yet and the clematis we planted by the mailbox didn't make it, but my windowbox of portulacas (moss roses) are in bloom. For the interested, the windowbox cost around $20 at Lowe's; my local store didn't have the plastic-coated wire model I saw in their free design magazine in stock.

I so miss my moss rose!!! I am completely and utterly envious you have them and I don't!!! I can't find them ANYWHERE here in Georgia. I am so tempted to drive down to NC just to get some. Ya know you can save the seeds from them and grow more next year right?

I started mine from seed and have an extra packet if you'd like them.

I'm a seed saver! I've saved every bloom from the windowbox I missed deadheading and went to seed on me, so when I do get to plant stuff in the ground? I've got those and several dozen envelopes of stuff saved from my mother's garden -- columbines sorted by color and blossom style, daisies, foxglove... *g* I love flowers.

Truth be known I have never had great luck getting flowers to grow from seeds. But I would never turn seeds down. Mike's grandfather has a greenhouse and is a flower magician. I know he would grow them for me and give them to me ready to plant! Right now I am saving my marigold seeds for him so I can have them again next year. Only they will be prettier because he just has a talent for it!

Thank you! Do you grow anything at your place? My sister doesn't have much room at her condo, so she has a cute windowbox she grows kitchen herbs in. I think it's incredibly clever since the last time I tried growing herbs, they spread all over my back yard. (We had to weed them all out before moving out of base housing, so all the garden beds were empty when we moved. The lady that cleaned our house knocked a bunch off the price in exchange for all the flowers in my two front beds.)
