For friends of mountain_hiker.

Terry (mountain_hiker) attempted suicide overnight. He's in the hospital, but I've been told it doesn't look good. Colorado Springs PD is attempting to notify his next of kin; I advised one of his mountaineering friends that's in touch with the CSPD about the estranged family situation [ed - removed a few names of people I suggested be contacted].

In a text he sent in the wee hours of the morning, he asked a few of us on LJ to change the privacy on a certain post to public and copy and paste the contents of another private post to several e-mail recipients, but I don't have his login credentials.

I am willing to serve as a contact point with whatever information I have - my e-mail is oddharmonic at gmail.com and if you have my number, you are welcome to call or text. (If you were on one of his group texts, my area code is 720 and the last two digits of my number are 96.)

ETA 1240 MDT: Terry is brain dead at this point. Any usuable organs will be harvested later today. One of his mountaineering friends is at the hospital with Terry's dad; I am getting information from him and another mountaineering friend that's in that loop. I will update with any further information as I get it.

I've been pretty quiet on LJ the last few years - commenting but rarely posting.

I was among the folks that called CSPD overnight with his address, although I didn't find out what happened until this morning.

I'll update with any information as I get it.

Thank you for calling CSPD. It's tough to be in the position to make that call, but I am glad that you did.

I'm not the only person that called. The sergeant on duty I talked to most recently today (I talked to an officer that was on the call this morning and the sergeant on duty later in the day) said a lot of people called following what we now know was his last text.

I'm guessing you were the Mira mentioned in the LJ-related item in the text? I'm the Melissa in it.

Truthfully, I don't know. I don't think that I have his phone number, and I didn't receive the text. My real name is not Mira, but I think I commented on things he wrote a fair bit.

Since he no longer has a say, I'll type the relevant parts out here with a description of the remainder.

"Life is hard. I'm just not cut out for it. I'm sending you this message because I have chosen to check out of this world & leave it to those who are much better than I am. If you are receiving it, I will be gone within the next few mins. I couldn't leave without saying good-bye to those who hold a special place in my heart, though. First of all, I want to make sure that my cats are well-cared for...."

[he talks about the cats, then addresses paragraphs to several different people]

"Melissa, Jill, or Miri - if one of you can log into my online journal & changed the post without the email addresses I made on [date redacted] from 'private' to 'public', I'd appreciate it. I want my online family of the last 12 years to know of my decision as well. I ask that you e-mail the message I left on the post with the email addresses to those recipients as a final request. Take care of yourselves."

[another paragraph addressed to his two closest friends; it's truncated on my phone mid-sentence]

LiveJournal only offers the opportunity to memorialize accounts and the FAQ states a court order is required to release the content of protected entries, so I am hoping to hear back on what I may be able to do about that.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Hugs and sympathy.

Thank you. I've contacted his father on my own so he can know there are people willing to help with whatever needs to get done right now.
