We spent way too much time in the car today, but I got a good bit more done on my current cross-stitch project and another pass through the L.L. Bean catalog. Laurel and I got our first look at the new REI flagship store in Denver, though Himself's dad wasn't working when we visited. This time next year we'll probably be down there fitting Laurel for a climbing harness so she can join in when I go out to spend some quality time with rock faces... and cracks, chimneys and bouldering problems...

The more interesting event of the day, though, was seeing the blue unit of Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Denver Coliseum. Last year Laurel slept through most of the show (RBB&B's red unit in Colorado Springs), but this year... my feet hurt just thinking about it. We got kissed by a clown and blew bubbles with another down on the floor before the show, Laurel got her face painted and a picture done dressed up, we had bits of funnel cake, popcorn and snow-cones, and she walked all over the concourse outside the seats. We got her a little souvenir of this year's show, too -- a little baseball cap in her size. And the strange bit of it? It's the first circus I've ever been to with no Mexicans traveling with the show in some capacity. (Last year, my dad's cousin Carlos was some sort of manager with the red unit so we visited with him. This year the closest we came to any family there was that my grandmother used to babysit Gunther Gebel-Williams, father of Mark Oliver Gebel, the current tiger trainer with the blue unit.)
