22 inches later...

I should take a new photo for my default usericon.

$16 later, I had my hair cut up to my shoulders, measured and bagged the braid and shipped it FedEx Ground to Locks of Love. I hope they'll be glad for a repeat donation and my longest yet at 22".

I am a few pounds lighter from the release of hair, my vacuum should clog less often and if you miss my long hair, give me 2 to 2.5 years and it'll be at my waist again.

Pictures pictures pictures!

I know I haven't been responsive of late for a variety of reasons/excuses, however I have been reading and I've been impressed with how positive you've remained. Plus I'm sure you're extra adorable looking for short hair no!

Here's how it looked that night:

And for comparison, here's how long it was in March:

I've been working every day on being positive. Thanks!

I love to hear about people I know donating to Locks of Love. My little cousin got a wig from there.....

Thanks for your giving, and I bet your hair looks hot!!

I told my sister I had to catch up with her because she'd donated more recently. (:

Thanks for commenting and I think my new hair length looks pretty cute!

I love that. I need to do the locks thing. Is your neck all tingly? When I cut my hair short, my neck feels like an Andes mint.

Yay for the haircut -- I always love how much lighter my hair feels after a cut, especially a big cut!

Yay for donating hair! I donated my hair a few months ago, and I was surprised at how many people thought it was horrible! Either telling me the company was bad, or acting like somehow cutting most of my hair off was an offense to people with long hair. Sheesh. Crazy people!

After having short hair as kids, my sister and I both grew our hair ridiculously long in high school. I love the lighter feeling I have after a good cut!

Oh, there's still quite a bit of controversy in long hair communities about Locks of Love. It hasn't stopped me yet and I figure it's nicer than when I randomly discovered the nerdsprout had left a ponytail under her bed from a big haircut of hers when she moved out. I first thought it was the grossest dust bunny ever.

I found your journal through machiavelli_f. Your archives are a lot longer than his. :D

Ever since I started growing my hair out two years ago, my secret wish was to one day be able to donate to Locks of Love. Thanks for pointing me out to their website. I'm afraid I still don't have 10 inches of hair to cut yet, though... My hair grows so slowly! :(

Hooray -- that's really awesome. I endorse that sorta thing totally. I'm not sure what the complaining is in long-hair communities, though, unless they're like, I dunno, only giving, like, 1 out of every 10 wigs to an actual cancer child, and using the other 9 to feed a long-haired person eating monster or something.

Actually, I'd probably still be fine with that, if only if that'd probably keep the monster from eatin' people, since he'd be full from the wigs.

Most of the complaining is about their lack of transparency about how exactly donations are used, like rumors about them selling hair.

Locks of Love does specifically create wigs for children that have lost their hair for medical reasons other than cancer. It pleases me that some of the hair my sister and I have donated might help some girl go from no hair to long hair.

When we measured the braid after the haircut, my stylist remarked that if we'd gone up to my chin we could have gotten over two feet.

Also, in my weak moments I am terribly jealous of people with naturally curly hair.

The only time my hair's held a curl, it was done by a patient friend using ridiculously hot rollers and enough hair spray to contribute to the hole in the ozone. I suspect someplace like Glamour Shots could make my hair stay curled too, but I'm too cheap to find out. (:
