Meme: song title letter meme.

This is a twist on the Letter Meme. Instead of coming up with ten items for a certain letter, you come up with five song titles for a certain letter and explain why you picked them. If you want to play, leave a comment and I'll give you a letter, then you post this blurb in your journal along with your list.

solcita gave me E and I'm going to do nine because I feel like it.

  1. Great Big Sea - Excursion Around The Bay
In addition to being the first GBS song I heard, whenever I get giggly falling asleep, this is what's stuck in my head.

  2. Sparks - Eaten By The Monster Of Love [lyrics]
A fine example of the kind of music you can play in mixed company. Laurel even likes it. As smallages says, no-one should have to listen to The Wiggles.

  3. Faye Wong - Eyes on Me
I tear up when this comes up on random, it's so sweet and poignant. Easily my most-played song from the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack.

  4. OPM - El Capitan [lyrics]
I played this for Vogon once and he asked me what chronic was. It's the kind of music my brother and I could agree on when we both lived at home and I was sick of him playing Linkin Park ad nauseam. Every time I see Captain Morgan in a store I hear this song.

  5. Conjure One - Extraordinary Way [lyrics] [listen on MySpace]
If I made an exercise mix for someone, this would be in it. The bass line in the Antillas Mix (available only through iTunes) tempts me to chair dance every time I hear it and the lyrics are beautiful -- as the song says "God, I'm lucky, so much luckier than I ever thought I'd be".

  6. The Mr. T Experience - Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend [lyrics]
If you ever complain to me on the phone about not having a girlfriend, I would play you this song. It won't make you feel better, but it might make you laugh. Also, I love me some Dr. Frank.

  7. MC Plus+ - End of File (feat. Logic the Android and Vitamin Z) [MP3 download]
I have a soft spot in my heart for nerdcore. He raps about computer science and represents grad students. It makes me laugh, especially the reference to driving to White Castle naked.

  8. Splashdown - Elvis Sunday [lyrics] [MP3 download]
It's one of the last songs I played on guitar. I can't sing like their lead singer, but I love trying when I'm by myself. I think of this song whenever anyone writes about treehouses or pillow forts.

  9. Allison Crowe - Effortless [lyrics] [MP3 download]
I feel like this song a lot. Even baby steps are steps, so I just have to be aware of being still for too long.

How about J?

1. Jump, Jive and Wail by Brian Setzer Orchestra - I can't help but smile and want to go swing dancing every time I hear this song.

2. Jenny Says by Cowboy Mouth - Song reminds me of the summer of 1996. I played this song over and over and over on road trips with my friends.

3. Jesus Walks by Kanye West - Reminds me of the movie Jarhead, not normally a rap/hip hop fan but this song strikes a chord with me for some reason.

4. Joey by Concrete Blondes - One of my all-favorite break-up songs.

5. Ballad of Johnny and Mary by Robert Palmer - I know this one doesn't start with a J but part of it does. This is an old song that I stumbled across the video for while watching the 25th anniversary of MTV last week. I'd never heard the song before and fell in love with it instantly.

Enjoy! :)

Sparks are AWESOME.

Should I feel musically limited when I admit it's the only Sparks song I've heard?

Nah, but definitely check out their other stuff. The cool thing, too, is if you don't like one album, try another, because they're mostly all different!
