Six years ago today, you were born and laid on me with your hair plastered to your head in little ringlets and the most intensely blue-purple eyes I'd ever seen. Today you're visiting your grandparents not far from where you were born and looking forward to the birth of your first cousin.
This year has seen a lot of milestones for you: you started school, you learned to read and write, you had your first sick day and snow day, your first best friend and even your first ear infection.
You went through two pairs of sneakers, outgrew your pretty red dress shoes, and wore the princesses off the sandals you got just after you turned five. You wore the Care Bears dress Aunt Amy made you through two tears, on your first field trip and on an airplane. You went on three trips to visit family, acquiring new shoes on every trip, and went to see where your great-grandmother is buried even though you know she's watching you from heaven.
While you're visiting Maghee and Pop-Pop -- names you gave them -- you've been keeping me up to date on the phone and read stories aloud to me, which pleases me so much because I want you to enjoy reading as much as I do.
You've made the transition from little girl to big girl and I couldn't be prouder of you, jiffy pickle. I hope you're always quick to smile and remember how happy you are today with a big family and even more friends that love you.
