I wonder if the downstairs neighbor cranks their music up so loud because they're drunk or stoned. Their craptastic bass started during Sesame Street today, so I cranked the TV up for fifteen minutes in hopes of deterring them. No dice.

Now it's the "da-da dum-dum-dum" song again. I have no idea if it actually has words or who performs it, but I hate it almost as much as I hate door-to-door proselytizers on Christmas Eve.

If they pull the thumping music again tomorrow, I am calling the police. I've been a considerate neighbor long enough and there isn't a discount for putting up with behavior like theirs, so I think I'm quite justified. With the upcoming holiday weekend, I can look forward to this all night every night until Tuesday morning like they did Halloween weekend if I don't call.

Will the police do anything if it before 10pm?

They won't, but the neighbors usually don't get the music thumping until midnight. I think the recent daytime noise is because someone living there wasn't home wasn't home during the day earlier in the year.

Also, I need to find a towing service that offers a finder's fee because the same neighbors constantly park in our other parking space (residents get two covered spaces; there are uncovered spaces for extra vehicles and guests) and have occasionally parked in both our spaces while we were out for lunch or running errands.

No discount for putting up with their behavior. Brilliant! Indeed, it is so.

I'm tempted to ask the complex management if we can get a noise discount. They must be making money with the $50 fines they levy for putting trash outside too early.

I once had a next-door neighbor that ran an auto shop out of a garage he built from a metal carport, plywood and tarps in his backyard. He told our shared landlord that we had a "garbage pile" (compost pile) in the backyard that was attracting animals, so the landlord told us to take it down even though he'd okayed it a few months before. (I have no idea what the neighbor was talking about. Most of our neighbors let their dogs run loose and the only food I composted was vegetable scraps.) In return, I decided I had the nerve to report the neighbor for running a business in a neighborhood not zoned for it. I have no idea what happened to him because we moved away, but I really don't like it when people report things without finding out what they're talking about.

On that note, I've talked to our downstairs neighbors a couple of times and they don't think their music is too loud. Offering me liquor and smokes doesn't change that I am cranky at 2 AM when it wakes me up.
