Future purchases: bike and craft gear.

The latest Nashbar catalog has some sweet deals in it, so it looks like some of our travel/moving voucher funds will be going to building Himself a new bike. (If you know what you're looking for parts-wise, Nashbar is consistently a better deal than most cycling catalogs.)

Naturally, my discretionary share of same is going to needlework accessories. Why? I need to replace the magnifying lamp Himself accidentally sheared the pin that held the lamp in its base off my last one in 2001. (This is one of the many reasons why I hate recliners.) I also need to acquire a scroll frame because a Q-Snap just isn't cutting it for holding the linen of the piece I'm trying to finish in time for Amy's wedding next summer.

Additionally, I need more Kreinik braid and Mill Hill beads since the good people at the Lakewood City Center Michael's don't know what they have in stock even while standing in front of the rack they're being asked about. In conjunction with my great experience with them in Dec 2001 when they refused to exchange a needlework stocking kit I bought there that had the wrong canvas in it, I'm not spending any more money with them. I'll be making the extra drive to the good local independent stitching stores in Denver or ordering from 1-2-3 Stitch, which is both competent and ships Priority.

I don't know what it is with Michaels but they are consistently idiotic. I try not to shop there anymore unless it's the sale-rack minis.

We used to have a chain here called "Treasure House" that was more or less the same thing, but they all got bought out by Michael's (Or Michaels, I don't know, I don't enjoy going there, so...). Anyway, I seem to think that my mom (who DOES enjoy going to those sorts of places) would agree, although she tends to go there anyway, since the only one around is Michael(')s. Well, without going way out of the way or anything. And I don't think she hates them -that- much. But if she's in the neighborhood of a different store of that variety, she'll typically go in.

With the exception of the beads I posted about, the only stuff I've bought at Michael's in the past year has been on clearance.

I have to look up where the Denver-area independent stores are because I can't remember where to buy stitching supplies other than Denver Fabrics (DMC floss for 19c/skein). I know one of them will give me a Latina sorority discount because it's run by one of my sister's sisters but they're on the opposite side of the metro area from us.
