New Laurel words and errata.

After being ill Sunday night and most of Monday, Laurel's had soft/loose stools all week. In her sponge-like ability to pick up new words, after she started having a bowel movement earlier today she announced "I'm having dyer-fah-ree-a!"

She's taken up the habit of singing when she colors, but her tempo is a bit off with some songs -- with "Row, Row Your Boat" she sings the first two lines at breakneck speed, then slows down "merrily" to "mary-mary" and waits for someone else to sing the last line. With "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", she combines the middle two lines to "up above the diamond sky".

Tomorrow is the Mountain Youth Festival and the Duck Derby (both of which benefit Cougar Pride, a local non-profit community asset-building program) so we're debating taking Laurel down during the elementary school time to swim since the Buchanan Park rec center pool is much more play-oriented, although I may be used to write up the results of the heats during the duck race so Himself would have to come along too.

On that note, if you'd like to reserve a duck ($3 for one or two for $5; there are cash prizes to the top 3 finishers and numerous 'lame duck' prizes of goods and services from local businesses) in the race, call me at home (number on my contact page) or cell before 1630 tomorrow.

I can't hear Twinkle Twinkle Little Star without also hearing the mnemonic McKellips taught us (from someone in your class, I believe) during the Electricity unit.

Twinkle twinkle little star
Voltage equals I times R
Up above the world so high
Power equals V times I

*chuckles* I remember that, though I don't know who came up with it since I didn't take physics until my senior year. D'Evelyn's science progression was shifted from most of Jeffco then, but the district-wide curriculum seems to be changing to be more like D'Evelyn's now.

I sang it for Himself, who was unimpressed. (:

... I'm sorry, but that is... I can't begin to find words to describe how rad that is. Laurel rocks.

I'd say that line is way prettier than the real two.

THe odd thing is, it's a more elegant solution, since, uh, if I recall, isn't the melody line on those two lines the exact same, and it seems a little jammed in? I don't know, it's been forever since I've heard the song, since, y'know, I don't really have a three year old of my own or anything.

Indeed. Laurel is apparently a device for turning kinda pedestrian similes into bitchin' metaphors.
