Dealing with the less-urgent mail from last week, I came upon a notice from our auto insurance provider. Every envelope from Progressive we've ever gotten has said "important documents enclosed", so I skimmed over this one when it first came in since we're paid up through the end of the year and our new cards had already arrived.

I should have read it more closely. It turns out they intend to cancel our policy because Himself doesn't have a license for the state in which we're insured, never mind that they haven't said a word to us in the past THREE YEARS that he's had a Colorado driver's license with a clean record (I don't drive here). The notice was dated three weeks after getting our payment for coverage through the end of the year.

We've already talked with his first shirt, who agrees with us, so tomorrow I expect to spend a lot of time on the phone with Progressive and then on to either base legal or hunting for new insurance if they can't be reasonable.

Does an auto insurance provider exist that's both affordable (for an E-3 family on one income) and doesn't pull stunts like this four months before we're guaranteed to be gone?

Um, all you should have to do is call them and provide proof that you're active-duty military. We had a Progessive account for almost the entire duration of our MD stay, and G's DL was from SC. I'm 99.99999999999% sure that's the glitch.

I hope that's the case; we provided it when we established the account with them.

I do miss the first shirt he had when we first got here, though. He gave housing what for when they notified us the afternoon Laurel and I were flying out that the house wouldn't be ready to move into and got us into officer TLF since enlisted TLF was full at the time. I made him cookies in thanks.

I think Robert went with Progressive because they were slightly cheaper than USAA for car insurance when we were first looking.

Captain Bob uses USAA too. I should have taken it as a sign, eh? (:

I wish I could recommend, but our insurance company blows. Sadly, we SWITCHED from Progressive to these jerks. I can tell you, do NOT under ANY circumstances go with Kemper. We're switching when our policy is up.

my husband was with progressive and they screwed him over twice taking an automatic debit payment out twice. but when i found out we were coming over here to Germany, i talked to geico, they were cheaper than usaa, overseas and stateside, and in my opinion they had great customer service reps. if geico doesn't work out try nationwide, i was with them when i was single and making 5.75 an hour and they were cheap, dependable and flexable with payment plans.

Re:
you know.. I actually thought you might have done that - but I just thought that if I had made a mistake in correcting someone, I would want it pointed out.

Sorry... It was early morning when I read it... not the best time for me and subtlety. :)

USAA USAA USAA!!!!! We have them for car and renters insurance. And Mike does NOT have a clean driving record. Mr. Leadfoot gets caught unlike Mrs. Leadfoot. LOL My monthly payment for full coverage on my car and 100 grand renters is only $54. I highly recommend them. I've been with them for several years and have NEVER had a problem with them. I've even had to skip a months payment and catch up the next month and never heard a peep. I had Progressive in NC and they pissed me off to no end. But that is a horror story I will keep from you cause you won't sleep for weeks if I tell you.

I also recommend USAA. I use it for everything, my family uses it, and a few other military families I know use it.
