May at home - concert ideas?

Himself finally got leave (hooray for the new shop, where he can actually get more than 4 days of leave per year!) and we'll be home for much of May. I'm looking at going to at least one of the following shows, though the last one would require me to fly home instead of driving:

- Everclear, 7 May, Fillmore Auditorium
- Etta James, 9 May, Paramount
- Skatalites, 10 May, Bluebird Theater (all ages show, erm)
- Linda Storey / Wendy Woo, 14 May, Gothic
- The Deftones, 15 May, Ogden
- Shawn Colvin, 15 and 16 May, Union Colony Civic Center, Greeley
- Big Head Todd and the Monsters / Hootie and the Blowfish opening, 17 May, Red Rocks
- Amazing Rhythm Aces, 18 May, Little Bear (this mostly because it's so close)
- Little Hercules, 21 May, Little Bear
- Nina Storey, 23 May, Fox Theatre
- Blue Man Group, 25 May, Pepsi Center

I wish I could fudge my stay either direction since both Dar Williams and the KBCO Kinetics Sculpture Challenge (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will be there) are on the 3rd and Wendy Woo will be at the Little Bear on 7 June. Right now I'm leaning the hardest toward Shawn Colvin (though the drive could suck) and Big Head Todd (it's Red Rocks and a great local band).

EDIT: We finally decided on Shawn Colvin. Now we just have to decide which day.

Why am I not surprised? (: I saw one of the songs off their new album with Venus Hum on Jay Leno the other night and was floored. Also, I want a dress that lights up like hers.

I think it'd be a great show -- I haven't been to a concert in the Pepsi Center yet, so I'd ask around about sound quality before buying tickets -- but the "having to fly home" part would kick my butt. I'd either have to stick Robert with driving home with midget or fly home with her, which would mean two airline tickets.

When I found out about her stop in Denver, I swooned. If Robert's interested in going too, it'd be a big deal since I've seen the lion's share of the concerts between the two of us.

Question: the only album of hers I own right now is At Last!. What others do you recommend owning?

Ooh, these are all Colorado venues, no? Coming back here while Robert's on leave? Family?

*nodnod* All Denver/Boulder venues aside from the one in Greeley.

We're driving home for a couple weeks in May since it's the only place we could agree on visiting with his leave. Should be interesting since herself hasn't behaved so well on flights but _generally_ does better in the car... we've already got a seat organizer that helps us keep track of the books and crayons/pencils she has back there, but I'm thinking overtime about what else we'll want for a long-distance drive.

Both our respective sets of parents live in the Denver area, as well as my sister and future-brother-in-law. My best friend was stationed at Peterson until last fall; if he was still there we'd be heading down there to visit too. You want to meet up for coffee or something while I'm home?

Which night's show works better for you?

When Robert asked who she was, I showed him her bit on Elmopalooza ("I Don't Want To Live On The Moon", duet with Ernie) before pointing him to the directory of her .mp3s on our home network. He thinks she's cute. (:

Blue Man Group puts on an awesome show. But, they will seriously bust you for taking pix, so beware.

I want to see them live but the timing and venue lead me to think I'd better put it off until a future date when I wouldn't have to finagle so much.

I actually rarely take pictures at shows... I have a bunch from the 1995-1997 seasons at Red Rocks, but that's because I saw so many shows there thanks to friends that worked for the company that provided parking/crowd management/etc. services.

One of these days I need to hook up with rainingvodka and see a few shows. I love the pictures he's taken from shows and his obsessive collection of ticket stubs; I've kept embarrassingly few, and then only to go with things like an album I had signed so I remember when it was.

Is he a roadie/show employee or does he just see a lot of entertainment while not reporting for duty?

Live music junkie. (:

And it's unlikely he'll be on duty again anytime soon as he's on terminal leave now and will start his Long Walk (through-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail) in a couple of weeks.
