Good: Vogon got an offer on one of the companies he'd done multiple interviews with and accepted it this morning. It will take him out of the medical software niche but is still in software development. (We did have a "small world" moment a few weeks ago when anonymosaurus gave us the card of a friend of his in medical IT and we realized it was someone Vogon knew from Millbrook/GE.)

Not-so-good: Our local Sonny Bryan's is closing and we found out by getting an e-mail from their customer mailing list with a coupon for a free dinner plate at the next-closest location, which is not all that close to us.

Bad, but inevitable: Bubby is pretty sick. His weight loss we thought was related to Laurel coming back home from summer vacation only briefly stabilized. His symptoms in addition to the weight loss are very similar to those caused by feline leukemia virus, so we made an appointment with the vet for right after school today.

We have prepared ourselves for his eventual loss. Given the state he was in when he came out of our fender, we know he got nearly two years he wouldn't have if he hadn't climbed into our car.

I'll update with his status after the appointment.

I am sending very warm thoughts your way - my parents (out in the country) lost a ton of barn cats (and indoor cats) before they could find the carrier of the virus. It was horrible.

Vogon once lost a rescue kitten to FeLV, which is why he was so worried about the relatively sudden onset of his symptoms.

Losing a lot of pets at once is horrible. I feel so bad for people who lose pets to disasters or even single mass events.

I'm sorry your cat friend is sick. :( I hope he tests FLV negative and your vet is able to patch him up.

We're glad the offer came through. A lot of the calls from headhunters involved not-local positions, which were interesting but we really like the school district we live in.

This week we are preparing sales listings for some of our surplus electronics to find new homes where they'll be used and a little extra money to help stretch our budget to his first paycheck. Laurel boggled as he carried /three/ printers and a scanner out of the study to photograph today!

Vogon has offered to drop Laurel and I off at our local shelter this Saturday so we can meet their cats. He's not ready to look himself, but he understands that the house feels weird without a cat now. Laurel really wants to just snuggle any cat, even if we don't adopt one that day.

i know that besides the money coming in, vogon will feel more relaxed. you all will. and the atmosphere in that house will be so much calmer!

send laural hugs from hush!

hush loves kids so much. we actually have children come to the door and ask if hush can come out to play, just like he was a kid. of course, and adult goes with him, but he licks and runs and slurps and has the best time.

want a cat that gives puncture wounds? i'm polka dotted!
