So the last month has been blah verging on difficult, which is why I haven't posted but have been industriously categorizing uncategorized articles on Wikipedia to focus on something I feel accomplished doing.

Right after a big product release in July, Vogon was planning to take advantage of A--'s summertime two-days-for-the-price-of-one ETO vacation offer and take most of a week off. His new-ish manager hedged about it the day after the product release, saying "Let's revisit that on Monday, mmmkay?". At 3 PM Monday, his manager finally came around to talk, but instead of "have a nice vacation, see you next week", said "We're going to let you go and will escort you out of the building." No reason given. The next day the contents of his cubicle arrived via courier.

In the past month, he's had interviews with a handful of companies. One of the close-by ones has already said no thanks and he would rather not go back to GE, albeit a different subsidiary of the company. One company with a position requiring couple days a week in Waco that's offering a commensurate raise in pay for the travel is looking like the most likely candidate; if he takes it, I hope he likes it as much as when he started at A--, if not as much as the whole time he was at Millbrook. (We loved Millbrook right up until GE bought it and sold the stockholders up the river.)

Anyway, having our financial situation look uncertain at a time of the year that's already difficult with my depression has made me an unhappy burrito and I began to hibernate to compensate for that. I pick up Laurel tomorrow and school starts Monday, so the return to a clearly delineated daily routine will improve my emotional keel and having her around to remind me in a nicer way than Vogon does about household things I tend to not think about will help.

For those of you that don't already follow my Flickr activity, I posted my June vacation photos and some late spring day-to-day photos a few days ago. You can view them in my photostream or go directly to the set pages for Day-to-day: 2008 or June 2008 Colorado vacation. If you're kid-averse, be aware that my toddler nephew and newborn niece are in a lot of the vacation photos; otherwise, it's mostly me and Laurel with Vogon and the cat sprinkled in.

My niece and nephew are the cutest kids ever. I tease my sister that I'm not sure how they are related to our family, but they are so much fun. (:

We're pretty confident about the company with Monday's interview.

Dude. I'm sorry for the suckage. May things get better and may you find yourself covered in pie (because it's hard to be depressed when piecovered).

It's already getting better. I just had to keep myself from wallowing in it.

Tomorrow I am splurging on snacky food, because I love to snack while traveling.

Don't make me send you pie. It's not certain if pie would survive the journey.

Cookies however.....

Pie generally does not ship well, although some food gift retailers ship theirs frozen and overnight. I am dubious of what condition anything frozen would arrive here since I'm in an apartment. (I've had specialty food items shipped overnight with dry ice to my parents' house. No problems there.)

Don't I owe you cookies? Or something?

Uh, yes. You owe me cookies. And something. If you say so. :D

Great. Now I wanna make those 3 ingredient cookies.

Hopefully, things will get better soon. I wonder if what that company did was even legal- certainly wasn't ethical.

It's nice to see you online- your LJ had been awfully quiet lately.

I've wondered where you've gone to, but I've been equally elusive, so
I wasn't one to complain. :O
Good luck with Vogon's job search. That would drive me crazy, not being given a reason
at all. I wonder if he asked later if they would be willing to give a good reference or not,
if he'd get more of the story, or if his former worker bees heard anything?

I was let go surprisingly once, after they had asked me to pick out carpet in my new office for the next year... I got vague answers, insinuations and later found out someone's niece, a clueless temp I had been training, got the job, I think they just needed to create an opening. The good news is the next job I got, I got a $5,000 raise. I will cross my fingers for Vogon to have a "na-na-nah-boo-boo"- like recovery. :)

I don't get it with people being fired lately, it's been happening to A LOT of people I know.

Hugs.

Sorry to hear about Vogon's job troubles but I'll keep my fingers crossed that he finds a new job that he enjoys!

oh dear. that would just irritate me to no end to not be given a reason for losing my job. also, aren't they supposed to do that crap on Friday so you don't go postal and shoot the place up? way to make a Monday even worser. :\

good luck to him on the job-huntings and to you on becoming a more cheerful burrito
