The Sea Hag et al upstairs have been unusually noisy this week. (Relative for their noise levels, that means it sounds like a drum corps having a cage match with a tiger.) I was starting to imagine her keeping prisoners that were getting rowdy when Vogon came in for lunch today with news that totally made my month: they're moving out.

Odds are good the next occupants will not be inconsiderate noisy jackholes.

Our leasing office knows we prefer quieter neighbors. Other than the recently-departed ones, our building is quiet even though it's mostly families with kids.

I did let the one family I know that had been looking for a 3-bedroom in our complex know one opened up, but I don't know if they have another resident lined up yet.

Not to rain on your parade, but a fun story from my past:

When I was living in my first apartment, the guys above us were in the military. So they had to wake up at 4am every day to be on base for roll call. Their morning routine consisted of, as far as those of us below them could tell, waking up, showering and shaving, getting dressed, then jumping rope while wearing combat boots and listening to heavy metal until about 6am when they left.

When they moved out, we were thrilled. Then their replacement moved in. I'm not entirely certain how many of the people who were always over there were on the lease, but I know for a fact that one of them was a filthy crack whore. I'm not saying that like "Cartman, your mom's a crack whore!" type of insult. I mean this nasty old woman (estimated age was anywhere from late 30s to early 50s, noone really wanted to ask and learn for certain) had sex, in the apartment above mine, with various men for money and/or drugs.

Moral of the story: it can always get worse.

I would have called their first shirt. Just sayin'.

In the past four years, our upstairs neighbors have gone downhill. The Sea Hag was just exceptionally annoying. I am pretty sure they moved out after getting ticketed by the police for a noise violation, but I haven't confirmed that.

We've already had the much-worse neighbor, too. In 2004 someone slashed the tires and convertible top on our Mustang following a party the annoying neighbors at that time had held; the party was broken up by the police but we had not called the police. Those neighbors moved out within two months after that incident.

Yeah, they were Air Force, noone really cared. Here's hoping that your next upstairs neighbours are better than this previous group!

Oh. Good riddance! I know they've been causing trouble for a while now (how many years has it been)?

Crosses fingers for nice occupants next time.

They were above us for just under a year and a half. They had gotten a little quieter recently since Dallas PD can now ticket or arrest on noise complaints without prior warnings, but other neighbors were getting fed up with them.

I am hoping for some reasonable people, or at least people who like tamales. It's nice to have neighbors we can break the ice with over food. And I like knowing our neighbors, even if it's just a name and a face to go with the car or kids.

Wow, this is encouraging! Hopefully, she will be but a distant memory as you enjoy nice, quiet new neighbors...keeping my fingers crossed for good ones!
