I realize it's time to go to bed when Gmail clip has the headline "Rice makes surprise visit to Iraq" and I wonder if that means they can't have Chipotle-style burritos anytime they want.

Sort of like the Spanish Inquisition ... or Eddie Izzard's "Cake or Death" skit

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Vogon had never heard of Eddie Izzard before Netflix recommended it to him. When I found that out, I asked him how he'd missed that (fabulous) boat.

Well, serious, rice is the principal staple of the Iraqi diet, but their variety isn't the sort that one would normally find in a burrito.

What variety is it?

I grew up with a pretty homogenous rotation of brown and white short-grain rice, used jasmine rice exclusively for awhile and am now having a torrid affair with purple rice and coconut milk.

The sorts of dishes that they fix would involve jasmine rice or something like it. I'm not sufficiently expert about rice to know what might be like jasmine rice, and I've not been to Iraq to know whether it is jasmine rice that they use when there. But I've observed that (and how) they use jasmine rice here, and I once discussed the significance of rice to the Iraqi economy with an Iraqi who was economically savvy.
