Andrea Dworkin died earlier this month and I didn't notice any mention of it on my LJ Friends list.

A lot of the memorials I've read go to either extreme, but Susie Bright wrote a particularly well-balanced tribute. The Salon.com article "The passion of Andrea Dworkin" is interesting but I found it a bit unsettling to wade through.

When I told Vogon that Andrea Dworkin had died, he replied "Who?". She may be remembered by some as an angry, bitter caricature, but her work is still worth reading at least once.

...

On a completely unrelated note, I am moderately cranky about my feet. It's been two weeks since I finished the course of antibiotics and they're still covered in itchy spots/splotches (they were fading but flared up like a mofo last weekend), extremely sensitive and swollen. They hurt whenever I stand, walk or sit without putting them up and go numb on the soles when I lie down.

My regular sandals (Teva Pretty Rugged Leather) are starting to cut into my feet when I wear them and my spare sandals with extra wiggle room (Birkenstock Milano, seen in the userpic for this post) are in Colorado. I'm debating asking someone to send them my way 'cause I don't have anything else to wear here without socks.

What color nail polish would play down the splotching on my feet?

I actually did mention her, very briefly, in my journal. I'm not sure if anyone noticed. And I saw a few "Ding dong the feminazi is dead" posts shortly afterward.

I saw the post but didn't realize who you were referring to at the time. Thanks for reminding me to look back at it.

Blog of Death (blog_of_death) blogged her passing on the 15th of April and it's even more confusing that I missed that since their entires are titled with the decedent's first and last name.

I feel like I'm really missing a lot of news lately. The weather changed this weekend and I was unaware it was coming, so I was surprised it was chilly on Saturday and againg when I saw on the news last night that it would be in the 40s overnight. (Luckily, none of the neighbors were outside late so they didn't see me retrieving tender plants from the patio in my pajamas.)

I saw it a while ago, but didn't really think to post about it. It was interesting reading the various obits and whatnot, especially on say, MeFi or Plastic, just because you got both sides, and it was interesting to see that the "all heterosex is rape" thing that she is (most?) associated with was a misinterpretation. So, yeah.

I'm also bummed out that Rodney's apparently got a 3.5-hour commute now, so he's not going to update RATYHTL anymore for the time being. (Mainly mentioned just because he did a post about her, but squarely in the Angry, Bitter Caricature vein.)

As for my own opinions on her -- well, I tended to lean more towards the "Doesn't Get It" type stuff, though I mainly just read stuff _about_ her. (Even in my (utterly awful...) philosophy class. But then again, my prof really, um, shouldn't have been a prof. She was awful.)

Perhaps red polish? So you could just be all like "well, yeah, I kinda splashed it all over". You could always elaborate as need be or somethin'. like, all like, riffing on the reasons why they were splashed around.

i almost can't read MeFi anymore since they'd made it open to more people. i wasn't a member before, but i enjoyed reading a few clever responses - now it seems a bit overloaded.

I dunno; I don't mind it so much, but, then again, MeFi's always been sort of hit and miss for me, since I typically like the links and stuff, but a lot of the members drive me _absolutely fucking batty_. There's a few of them I like, though; as my friend Ben says (toddler_hiway), if y2karl and quonsar had a blog, MeFi'd be irrelevant. (I think there's a couple other folks, too, like dobbs, though I guess he's sorta only kinda-sorta around anymore, and of the new people, I really like orthogonality, but... yeah.)

So, yeah, I don't know. If membership were free, I would totally be a member (for AskMe if nothing else); but for the five bucks? I simply don't care enough. (Nor, well, really wanna give mathowie money, since I tend to group Mefi into my list of "Sites that would be AWESOME if the guy who ran them had a clue on how to make them AWESOME." But it's OK, though, it's not like some of those where I, you know, don't read them. At least mathowie gets it Enough that it's OK, unlike some other sites I could name but won't.)

It's strange; I really prefer the Plastic Style Of Things, but the signal/noise ratio is a bit high. I typically grow bored with a Plastic thread halfway through, but read all/most of most of the MeFi threads I read. I think it'd be great if you could somehow combine the positives of each, though I'm not sure how.

But yeah -- I know near the beginning of new signups, it was getting pretty awful since everyone and their brother was joining and basically posting "WHOAAA IM ON METAFILTER!111", and it's settled back down, which is good. There's still a touch of that, but not nearly as much as it was before.

And, you know, now there's othogonality posting, and, AFAICT, he rocks.

Hm. I just realized my previous post seems really sort of weirdly harsh towards MeFi and mathowie in particular. So, uh, yeah, first off, sorry about that, and I should probably talk about a few of the things that I think MeFi does right/wrong.

I started writing a really long reply here, but, I kinda realized that it was getting absurdly long, and you may or may not actually care, but if you do, I'm going to post it to my own LJ in a bit. Just to not, you know, fill up Melissa's journal with irrelevant ranting about not much of anything, heh.

Like I said in my reply to oracleofdoom's comment, blog_of_death reported it on the 15th but I somehow missed it.

I'm sad to hear Rodney Anonymous won't be updating for awhile.

The splotching ranges from dark pink spots to fading bits ranging in shade from that to just barely darker than my skin. I don't think I currently have a shade that comes anywhere near any of them, although my former regular toe color (jane's Foxy) is almost the same color as the dark pink spots. Maybe I should try the wacky stuff I have that looks pink or blue depending on the viewing angle (Sky Blue-Pink from Orly).

Rodney actually did update this weekend (not with an update on his situation, but a rant about some Appalachian on NPR), so maybe he's just going to do updates when he can squeeze them in. (I think it's taking a toll on him, though, since the Appalachian Lady Rant doesn't really seem to make a whole lot of sense; it seems that he just decided to go off on her, and it's not really too awfully clear as to why.)
