Putting Laurel to bed half an hour earlier resulted in her waking up an hour and a half earlier. I don't quite get this logic, but I have to get used to it since shifting our sleep hours has two positive outcomes: it gets Laurel more in circadian sync with her classmates when she starts preschool and it gives me a few hours to get things done without her underfoot before she wakes up in the morning. That adds up for time I can spend working here. (:

Yesterday Laurel spent 45 minutes in the hot tub (it's not quite warm enough to swim in the pool) as a reward for using the potty twice. She thought she was hot stuff splashing around, though I wasn't so wild about it after getting an ant bite. *grumbles briefly about people not cleaning up after themselves and the complex not using broadcast ant killer* It doesn't itch as much now, but I had a nickel-sized welt on my forearm when I went to sleep.

Laurel picks up phrases from the videos she's been watching and is learning to use them appropriately. In the meanwhile, it's really funny to have her ask for something and follow up with "I'm serious!" or "Sweet, but wrong" while she's waiting.

I think she inadvertently amused several fellow diners over lunch yesterday at the Pollo Salsa in Carrollton between peeking through the break in the divider between our booth and the condiment bar and lifting her dress to look at the band-aid on her stomach. Luckily she devoured the rice, beans and chicken that make up their kids' meal, though next time I won't get the lemonade for her -- it's so sweet even I winced.

Today's big project is ironing around 20 yards of cheesecloth, folding it in half lengthwise, and winding it onto the bolt it came in on. *wry grin* After I get the current batch of spice bags (used for mulling spices, bouquet garni, etc.) ready for sale I'll post a heads-up here before I list them on eBay.

In the meanwhile, amuse yourselves with the mental image of me wrangling several yards of fabric with Laurel underfoot. (:

Ironing that much fabric sucks. I've been ironing half yards and yards (mostly halves) for the past two or so weeks. Sorry, sweetie. I hope you're better at ironing than I am.

I don't mind; ironing cloth is much less stressful for me than ironing clothing. If I get sufficiently lazy, there's a clothing press I can use.

Oh yeah. I totally can't iron clothing. When I do, esp. oxford shirts, I pretty much just iron wrinkles in. You have a clothing press? Awesome.

I can iron military uniforms, but that's because I grew up learning how to iron on them. Everything else I'm happy to pay to have ironed at the cleaners.

Vogon has a clothing press. I didn't want to use it while alone with the midget because it takes awhile to cool down and I fear she'd beeline for it the minute she got the chance.

Why does he have a clothing press? That's so funny. Yeah, the midget might beeline for it. Kids are craaaazy.

Because he can. Seriously, I think it's tied into when he got into sewing last year because it irons about the same surface area as a tabletop ironing board at once.

Last time he had the press out, Laurel kept trying to play near it and we had to shoo her away several times.

was it, like, that Hi-C type Lemonade? Or was it real, just with a brick of sugar in it?

Real lemonade, too much sugar. I can't really complain because the place is wicked cheap for the amount of food you get, though I nearly lost a mouthful when some guy in line near us asked the person with him, "What's Jarritos?". (Samples of all the bottled drinks they sell are lined up so you can see them a few feet out from the counter and there's five or six flavors of Jarritos in that lineup. For everyone wondering, it's Mexican fruit-flavored soda.)

It's funny, because at first I was going "Well, I don't know Jarrittos are!" but then was all "Well, I don't work in a mexican restaurant..." and then when you said that they had them all lined up and such, I was all "Heh, wow. Probably he doesn't know what they are because either no one orders them, or they all say it wrong, like JAR-it-toes."
