After minor frustration over getting my USB plugs plugged back into the card in the same order to confuse my boxen less, I broke out the label maker and did it once and for all. I also labeled the power bricks and used a mix of velcro wraps and twist ties to tidy my wire snarl. Phear.

I love the velcro cable ties...I cleaned up the wires behind my computer with a bunch of those.

They're growing on me. We started using velcro ties last year for Playstation errata (we usually have three controllers and a headset within arm's length of the base unit) and now they've spread to the computers. If they rise up, I think the squiggly wire organizer will beat them down.

wow. My parents did that with the cables, but used masking tape.

If you masking-tape the battery door on (Laurel broke it awhile back taking the door off and putting it back on ad nauseam), you're welcome to borrow my labeler. It's a basic Dymo LetraTag (<$20 at Wal-Mart) and I have a metric buttload of tape for it thanks to buying in bulk.

Much like the Brother P-Touch ad where the guy says "I see labels," I do. I also see filing schemae. It's a terrible affliction, but one of these days I'll parlay it into a day job.
