First things first: Happy birthday, knicole1979!

Why I was AWOL over the weekend: we had a dozen teenage girls that stayed up all night Friday into Saturday (birthday party), a gig Saturday, and my glasses broke last night at a weld point, so they need to be replaced. Whee. More on all of that in a later post.

I survived. The facepainting gig was great -- I had live music almost the entire time and a lot of kids came back for third and fourth paintings -- and I should take you to Fiesta Jalisco some time so you can bask in their nummy food and see the nopale (prickly pear cactus) chandeliers that Mom jokes we should get a copy of for Amy's cabin.

I hope the teenaged girls were not too annoying, and you should put a big wad of tape on the glasses.

Or a band-aid.

I fled the rooms they were in as soon as I could, which is how I spent four and a half hours Saturday morning editing photos of said girls. I wouldn't have slept as much, but Laurel woke up around 0430 and said "come to bed, mommy."

I've already tried taping the glasses. It keeps the left lens on the semi-rimless lower bit but will not keep the left temple attached to the rest of the glasses. Luckily my vision is not too different from Mom's, so I'm wearing her next-to-newest prescription and feeling l33t 'cause they're memory-[some kind of metal] frames so they *shouldn't* break and they're lighter than my deceased glasses by a long shot. I think I'll spring for high-index lenses this time 'cause these are so light I wouldn't even notice I'm wearing them except that they occasionally slide down my nose.

I actually kinda like the high-index ones. Although I actually _have_ to have them, because my prescription is so bad they kinda wouldn't fit in the frames otherwise. I got the Ultra-High Ones this time, and I'm not sure if I'd recommend them really if you don't need them, because they need a Special Coating, which tends to get scratched really easily -- but not deeply, but enough so you sort of see it on the lenses as sorta hovering translucent crap. But if you just get the Normal High-Index (assuming you've got more-or-less normal-bad vision, which I assume, since you're all talkin' about high-index as an option and also Rimless Glasses which I wish I could have, because then I could be Jamie Hyneman!), you should be fine.

I also kinda like the Memory Type Metal. These frames are kinda annoying because I clocked myself with a door about 3 months ago, and they never actually went back to actually fitting right, no matter how I bend out of shape them and what not. So, uh, yeah.

Have you seen the demonstration where the demonstrator demonstrates them by grabbing them and _twisting_ them and they pop back, and it's really cool?

Also, I could make some sort of joke re: "Come to bed, mommy" and how if I knew that was all it took I would have said it sooner, but I won't.
